A smart shelf, built from modules.
Xanadu is a smart, interactive shelf system made of modules. I designed the Xanadu logo and the product concepts, created the 3D presentation video, and led the technical and industrial design team for the project.
The brief
Shelves that can be rearranged, and that respond.
The brief was for shelf designs that are modular: units a store can put together in different ways. And smart: shelves with screens and interaction built in, so the display can do more than hold product.
I led the technical and industrial design team that worked on it.
Palette
The palette of the work.
Colour
- Walnut#84644E
- Taupe#A59183
- Sand#CBB59F
Colours sampled from the work, not a published palette.
The concepts
Panels that slide into place.
I designed the concepts and showed them in 3D, including the order the parts go together in, which is the thing a drawing cannot explain.
After the concept stage, the technical parts were altered by the lead industrial designer to make them buildable.
The name
The logo, animated in the film above.
I designed the Xanadu logo too. The presentation video at the top of this page opens on it, animated.
